What Are Allied Races?
Allied Races are a new type of playable race in Battle for Azeroth. There are eight announced Allied Races, with more possibly in the future.
Alliance Races: Void Elf, Lightforged Draenei, Dark Iron Dwarf, Kul Tiran Humans, Mechagnomes.
Horde Races: Nightborne, Highmountain Tauren, Zandalari Troll, Mag'har Orc, Vulpera.
Allied Races have unique emotes, customization options, mounts, and armor.
When Are Allied Races Playable?
The Nightborne, Highmountain Tauren, Void Elf, and Lightforged Draenei Allied Races are playable with Battle for Azeroth pre-purchase.
Dark Iron Dwarves and Mag'har Orcs are available in Battle for Azeroth launch after completing the 8.0 War Campaign and reaching Exalted with the War Campaign faction.
Zandalari Trolls and Kul Tiran Humans require you to have bought Battle for Azeroth, completed the major storylines within Kul'Tiras and Zandalar, be exalted with the War Campaign faction, and the faction of the class you're wanting to play. For example, Kul'Tiran's require exalted with the Proudmoore Admiralty.
Vulpera and Mechagnomes, added in patch 8.3, are playable when you have bought Battle for Azeroth, completed the major storylines within Vol'dun (Vulpera) and Mechagon (Mechagnomes) depending on the race, be exalted with the War Campaign faction, and the faction of the class you're wanting to play.
Unlocking Allied Races
Most factions require Exalted as well as completion of the related story quest achievement.
We have added the ability to track your progress towards unlocking each Allied Race, thanks to our attunement tool:
Nightborne: Exalted with the The Nightfallen and completion of Insurrection
Void Elf: Exalted with Argussian Reach and completion of You Are Now Prepared!
Lightforged Draenei: Exalted with Army of the Light and completion of You Are Now Prepared!
Highmountain Tauren: Exalted with Highmountain Tribe and completion of Ain't No Mountain High Enough
Dark Iron Dwarf: Exalted with 7th Legion and completion of Ready for War
Mag'har Orc: Exalted with The Honorbound and completing of Ready for War
Kul Tiran Human: Exalted with Proudmoore Admiralty and completion of the 8.1 Alliance War Campaign and A Nation United.
Zandalari: Exalted with Zandalari Empire and completion of the 8.1 Horde War Campaign and Zandalar Forever!.
Mechagnome: Exalted with the Rustbolt Resistance and completion of The Mechagonian Threat.
Vulpera: Exalted with Voldunai and completion of Secrets in the Sands.
Mounts and Unlock Scenario
When you complete the scenario and quest chain for an Allied Race and earn the achievement, you will also unlock an Allied Race mount that can be used by other races. Even if you don't plan on playing the Allied Races, you should still complete the scenario and quest chain to use the mount on your other characters!
Nightborne: Nightborne Manasaber
Highmountain Tauren: Highmountain Thunderhoof.
Lightforged Draenei: Lightforged Felcrusher.
Void Elves: Starcursed Voidstrider.
Mag'har Orcs: Mag'har Direwolf.
Dark Iron Dwarf: Dark Iron Core Hound.
Kul Tiran Human: Kul Tiran Charger.
Zandalari Troll: Zandalari Direhorn.
Mechagnome: Mechagon Mechanostrider.
Vulpera: Caravan Hyena.
Heritage Armor
Each Allied Race has a specific Heritage Armor Set. This is acquired from leveling to 20 to 110 on the Allied Race character without any boosts.
These sets are cosmetic, meaning they can be transmogged onto any Cloth, Leather, Mail, or Plate the Allied Race character is using. Other races cannot use that Heritage Armor Set.
